One You Cheshire East launches

4 Nov 2019

Cheshire East’s free healthy lifestyle service has been refreshed so that it provides even better and broader health support to local people.

One You Cheshire East has relaunced and is now delivered by our subsidiary organisation, Reed Wellbeing.

As well as continuing to support residents to lose weight, stop smoking, and move more, two brand new services have been added: ‘Healthy Baby & You’ will help pregnant women to improve their health during and after pregnancy; and the ‘Falls Prevention Programme’ will help older residents to decrease their risk of falling over.

Reducing health risks

The service is helping to tackle some alarming statistics around the health of Cheshire East residents.

In 2016/17, nearly 6 in ten people from the area were classed as overweight or obese, and almost a quarter (22.1%) reported doing less than 30 minutes of physical activity per week.

Smoking prevalence in Cheshire East is recorded as 16.4% - higher than England’s overall rate of 14.9%. And in 2017/18, there were 2,041 emergency admissions for falls in residents aged 65+ in Cheshire East. 504 residents aged 65+ sustained a hip fracture.

Expert support to improve your health

Tom Brunwin, Reed Wellbeing’s National Operations Manager for Integrated Health, said:

“One You Cheshire East is run by experts who are on-hand to help you improve your health. Whichever service – or services – you choose to access, you’ll benefit from totally free, friendly, personalised and non-judgmental support to address your health concerns.

“We’ll help you to devise a tailored plan that’s suitable for you and your needs, and we’ll work with you to help you meet your health goals.

“As well as feeling physically better and improving your mental wellbeing, you’ll be significantly reducing your risks of developing really serious and long-term health conditions, including Type 2 diabetes, stroke, and coronary heart disease.

“We are here to support you to take control of your health.”

Reed Wellbeing is delivering One You Cheshire East on behalf of Cheshire East Council Public Health.
